Recognizing our All-Star Team

Celebrating ASAS Changemakers

ASAS | 24 April 2025

We often highlight the unique opportunities, partnerships, and life-changing experiences we provide for students—but none of these would be possible without the passion and dedication of our incredible team members. Recently, several All-Star leaders were recognized for their outstanding contributions to out-of-school time (OST) programs. Through advocacy, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to youth wellness, these honorees aren’t just changing individual lives—they’re reshaping the entire OST landscape.

National After-School Ambassador

Ghiles Jackson (ASAS New York) has been named one of only 15 Afterschool Alliance Ambassadors—a prestigious role that will allow him to advocate for increased support and funding for programs at the national level. As an ambassador, Ghiles will organize a major event for Lights On Afterschool and collaborate closely with other national youth-focused organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA, and YWCA. “We are absolutely delighted that Ghiles Jackson will serve as a 2025 Afterschool Ambassador for the Afterschool Alliance,” said Jodi Grant, Executive Director for the Alliance. “This is going to be a pivotal year when we simply must continue the progress in making after-school and summer learning programs available to more students, even as federal education spending is under scrutiny. […] Jackson is exactly the kind of champion we need.”

The Next Generation of Leaders

ASAS is known for innovation and leadership—and four of our very own were recently honored as part of the National AfterSchool Association’s Next Generation of Leaders. Blakeley Davenport (National), Brian Allen (Washington, D.C.), Rebecca Osborne (Cleveland), and Alexis Mathieson (New Jersey) have been recognized as emerging leaders under the age of 30 for their outstanding contributions to out-of-school time programs. Through STEM initiatives, innovative youth leadership programs, mentorship, and countless hours of hard work, these All-Stars are pushing the after-school field forward. Our four All-Star team members were joined by 24 other representatives from prominent school districts and organizations like the YMCA and Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Championing Youth Mental Health

Caring for our students has always been about more than academics alone—it means supporting their overall health and well-being. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that Britteny Cyphers (Site Coordinator, ASAS Cleveland) has been accepted into the Cuyahoga County Youth Work Institute Fellowship, a selective program dedicated to youth mental health advocacy. This fellowship will provide Britteny with specialized training in mental health awareness and intervention, deepening her positive impact on students and equipping her with even more tools to support her community.

Celebrating Black Excellence

For more than two decades, Sean Prospect (Executive Director, ASAS South Florida) has worked tirelessly to expand access, equity, and opportunity for students. Recently, he was honored by two organizations that recognized his leadership and impact: the Florida Panthers’ Celebration of Black Excellence, and AT&T’s 32nd Black History Month Digital Calendar. Sean’s dedication has enabled thousands of students to envision and pursue brighter paths forward. Sean spoke with us recently about his work in South Florida: “The communities we serve are incredibly diverse—different backgrounds, nationalities, and experiences—and each comes with its own unique strengths and challenges. Understanding those nuances leads to open, meaningful dialogue. Ultimately, this work is about listening, respecting differences, and empowering every student and family to create better lives for themselves while building stronger communities.”
