FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lindsey Vonn Joins After-School All-Stars National Board of Directors

Los Angeles, CA (March 13, 2023) — After-School All-Stars (ASAS) is pleased to announce that Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn has joined its National Board of Directors and will begin working alongside the organization’s leadership to provide strategic support and guidance.

ASAS is one of the country’s largest nonprofit organizations working to close the opportunity gap for low-income youth by providing year-round free, comprehensive afterschool programs and support services for students and their families.

Omar Johnson (ASAS board member and Founder of ØPUS United) says, “After-School All-Stars prioritizes inclusion and equity in all facets of the organization, and we believe that having directors of diverse gender, race, ethnicity, and varied skills and experiences contributes to a stable and effective board. The addition of Lindsey to the National board of directors gives us even more momentum toward that pursuit.”

Johnson continues, “Lindsey is an accomplished and dedicated leader that will add so much value to ASAS and the students we serve. Her enthusiasm and commitment to ASAS’ mission will skyrocket our network forward.

While Lindsey is best known for being one of the most decorated American ski racers in history and widely regarded among the greatest of all time, she also has a well-established record in philanthropy and nonprofit service. She founded the Lindsey Vonn Foundation (LVF) in 2015 with the goal to empower underserved young women through scholarships, education, and athletics. Like After-School All-Stars, LVF is committed to helping youth gain confidence, build inclusivity, and grow as individuals.

Lindsey says, “Since meeting my childhood idol Picabo Street when I was 9 years old, I have understood the impact people can make on children. Whether it was meeting kids during my ski racing career or through my Lindsey Vonn Foundation, I have tried to do what Picabo did for me and help empower our youth to believe in themselves and follow their dreams.” She continues, “Now, as a member of After School All Stars, I have an even larger opportunity to help children. Joining forces with my dear friend, Arnold Schwarzenegger, I know we will change lives with ASAS.”

The 4-time World Cup overall champion joins After-School All-Stars as it marks its 30th anniversary since being founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1992. The organization has expanded to serve more than 85,000 students at 700+ sites across the US annually –– most recently, the organization doubled its footprint since COVID-19 in order to respond to increased demand for after-school programs.

Andrea Bazán, President of After-School All-Stars, says, “The past two years have seen rapid growth and change for the organization, and Lindsey joins us at a time when expanded learning programs are more important than ever. Last year, Lindsey partnered with us and Omaze to help raise more than $1 million for After-School All-Stars. Now that she’s a board member, I’m so excited to see what we can accomplish together. In addition to her years of nonprofit experience, Lindsey is someone our students can look up to—as a competitor, a champion, an entrepreneur, and philanthropist.”

Paul Wachter, ASAS National Board of Directors Chair, says, “From knowing Lindsey and witnessing how much she has accomplished through her Lindsey Vonn Foundation, it’s great to see how dedicated she is to impacting the lives of kids. Throughout her career she has pushed herself to become one of the greatest downhill skiers of all time, and I’m looking forward to seeing the ways in which she pushes All-Stars to reach even greater heights now.
