LOCAL STORY: THE SUNSHINE STATE: PALMS AND ORIGAMI CRANES

For the migrant workers and their kids living in lush Homestead, Florida, there’s no vacation wonderland they can escape to. At the southernmost tip of Florida is Homestead, an agricultural community. Acres of lush farmland and raw wilderness stretch as far as the eye can see, with rough roads that school buses can’t travel on easily and without streetlights to break through the darkness when the sun sinks dips into the Atlantic.

ASAS SOUTH FLORIDA ALUM TI’ANDRE BELLINGER EXCELS AT POLICE ACADEMY

“After-School All-Stars doesn’t just change lives, it saves lives, just like it did for me.” – Ti’Andre Bellinger, ASAS Alum

Miami’s CBS news station recently caught up with ASAS South Florida Alum Ti’Andre Bellinger. Bellinger is training to become a city of Miami police officer and at 19, he’s the leader of his section at the police academy. It was a welcome break from the rigors of the Academy to sit down with his mentor, ASAS South Florida Executive Director Sean Prospect.
