JANUARY 2025
Hello, Friend!
Happy New Year to all our supporters, students, parents, mentors, school administrators, teachers, and funders! We send a joyful “welcome back” to returning students and a warm welcome to new families joining After-School All-Stars at Stuart-Hobson MS, Johnson MS, Leckie EC, McKinley MS, Langley ES, and Jefferson MS.
Programs in Full Swing
Classes resumed January 6th, featuring student favorites and exciting new offerings! Our Healthy Cooking program will culminate in the Annual Cook-Off in celebration of Black History Month on February 27th. Students are also working on a mural project for the Environmental Justice initiative at McKinley and Leckie.
Other programs include yoga, fitness, dance, cosmetology/barbering entrepreneurship, and more!
Fundraising Success
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, ASAS DC raised $23,000 during our end-of-year fundraising season! Special thanks to our corporate partners Dev Technology (who raised over $8,000) and AIS (Applied Information Sciences). Also, shout-out to board members and individuals who set up donation pages through our fundraising platform Spur Local!
Community Engagement
On January 23, ASAS DC held a “Bagels and Big Dreams” Family Breakfast at Leckie Education Campus. Families got together to share their aspirations for the year ahead while enjoying a great meal and an unforgettable sense of community.
