With education and student success at the center of national conversations, it’s clear that families, educators, and communities all want solutions that support young people.
A new national poll reveals that the vast majority of voters recognize after-school programs as a necessity—and they want to see more investment in these vital programs. Across political lines and geographic regions, voters overwhelmingly support after-school programs and want their leaders to prioritize funding.
The Case for After-School
ASAS offers more than just a safe space for our students. We provide academic support to help students thrive in school, enrichment opportunities that spark curiosity and passion, mentorship and guidance that build confidence and life skills, and a sense of belonging that keeps kids engaged and on the right track.
“Students in after-school programs make gains in grades, school attendance, behavior, and more — but too many of our children and youth are missing out,” says Afterschool Alliance Executive Director Jodi Grant. “At this moment, when lawmakers are scrutinizing federal expenditures closely, this new survey leaves no doubt that voters recognize the tremendous benefits after-school programs offer to children, youth, communities, and our economy — and that they want lawmakers to invest more in these programs.”
Since 2022, support for after-school programs has grown in nearly every group polled, with rural, older (65 and over), younger (under 30), and independent voters increasing support by more than 10 percentage points each. These numbers send a powerful message: after-school programs make a difference, and communities want more of them. But it takes more than statistics to make a difference — it takes people.

ASAS is currently serving 150,000 students, but there are millions still waiting for access to after-school programs. With your help, we can reach even more students — because every child deserves a safe, enriching place to go after school.
Thank you for being part of this movement. Together, we’re making after-school opportunities a reality for more students nationwide.
