Our Chapters

Atlanta

After-School All-Stars Atlanta offers students hundreds of programs, ranging from homework assistance to project-based learning; other activities include sports and cooking. We want to ensure all students feel welcomed and included. We focus most of our funding towards expanding our programs across Atlanta—we want to guarantee the safety of students in our local communities. Our hope is for our students to thrive in all areas of their life and grow into who they are called to be.

Executive Director

Dr. Walt Thompson has been with After-School All-Stars Atlanta since 1994. He was part of ASAS when it was known as the summer Inner-City Games program. Comprehensive after-school programs had not been launched and would not be until 1999. Today, there are 23 sites across Atlanta funded by some of the most influential philanthropic foundations. Dr. Thompson is the Georgia State University College of Education & Human Development Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research and holds the title of Regents’ Professor. Last year, he was elected President of the American College of Sports Medicine, the largest sports medicine and exercise science professional organization in the world (50,000 professional members and certified fitness professionals). In his spare time, he writes college text books (now over 15) and spends quality time with his four grandchildren.
